Westmorland

Westmorland is a family-friendly neighborhood that rests on the west side of Madison. It is primarily residential with a majority of the houses being single-family homes.

The architectural styles of the homes in this neighborhood vary from mid-century modern to colonial to ranch-style, showing it is a diverse area to live in.

Westmorland is known to be a safe and peaceful environment, allowing families to grow up in the suburban lifestyle while also being close to downtown Madison. Most families enjoy Westmorland Park, which is the hub for togetherness. It offers sports fields, playgrounds, walking trails, and space for other recreational activities.

The location of this neighborhood is convenient for families with it being near the West High School and the Midvale and Lincoln Elementary School. There is also access to a major transportation route that reaches UW Madison.

The community is brought together by the Westmorland Community Association during their various activities. They take pride in hosting these bigger events like Winter Play Day, Halloween Parade and Party, and Summer Garden Tour. They also sponsor different contests, like the Winter House Decorating, to keep the residents involved.

This friendly community offers several amenities for families to enjoy.

Shorewood Hills

Shorewood Hills neighborhood is located west of downtown Madison. With Lake Mendota bordering the northern part, there are many homes with an elegant waterfront view. A majority of the residences are single-family homes that showcase historic and classic architecture types.

This community is great for families with kids due to the numerous amenities and opportunities it offers. Nearby, there is Shorewood Hills Elementary School, UW Madison, and Shorewood Hills Park, which offers playgrounds, sports fields, walking trails, and other outdoor activities.

Dungeon-Monroe

Dungeon-Monroe is a vibrant and diverse neighborhood located on the west side of Madison. It has a mixture of residential, commercial, and recreational spaces for residents and visitors.

There is a blend of historic and modern architecture within this neighborhood. The housing styles differ between the homes to apartments to condos, allowing it to charm a wide variety of people from different lifestyles.

The two main streets of this area are a destination for people to shop, dine, and socialize with its array of shops, restaurants, boutiques, bars, and cafes. It also benefits from its location with being in close proximity to Wingra Park, Henry Vilas Zoo, and the hospital. A few other close highlights would be Trader Joe’s, Camp Randall, Lake Wingra and Monroe Street Library.

Dungeon-Monroe is also close to several schools. It is near the Edgewood elementary, middle school, high school and college, along with UW Madison.

Maple Bluff

Maple Bluff is a welcoming neighborhood that has a lot to offer for those who would like to live in an exclusively residential area. It has a strong sense of community and a mix of architecture types. With there being no vacant lots, there are no new builds, leaving the neighborhood to be filled with traditional homes that were built between the 1920s and 1950s.

This neighborhood borders Lake Mendota and is in close proximity to downtown Madison. The location offers easy access to the lake for various water-based activities, the airport, several bike trails and parks, and a variety of dining and shopping.

Maple Bluff has many notable features between cosmetics and activities. It is visually appealing with the houses, large bluff and mature maple trees that line the streets. Alongside looks, the neighborhood offers activities with the private country club, recreation center, gym, and marina including swimming, tennis, golf, and more.

Overall, Maple Bluff is great for residents attracted to historic charm and looking for a neighborhood that has a close-knit feeling with the community members.
